This hand etched kaleidoscope is silver plated with surface designs. Both beautiful and functional, this piece would make a lovely Christening present. It is available in different sizes, each of which contain different colours to give a range of possible patterns.
Coined in 1817 by Scottish inventor Sir David Brewster in the early 1800s, ‘kaleidoscope’ comes from the Greek for ‘beautiful’, ‘that which is seen’ and ‘to look/examine’. Usually made of three mirrors at 60 degree angles, kaleidoscopes create patterns by reflecting images of beads or stones inside their chamber. Entertaining for both adults and children, kaleidoscopes have remained popular to this day.
